TURKEY

• Turkey is the bridge between Asia and Europe and spans an area of 1000 miles x 500 miles.

• Turkey is 2 hours ahead of GMT. The flight times are approx 4-5 hours depending on departure and arrival airports

• The Turkish resorts are divided into a number of areas served by different airports Antalya on the south coast serves the Mediterranean resorts (Kemer, Side, Alanya) often referred to as the Turkish Riviera. This airport has direct flights all year.

• On the west coast the main resorts / airports are Bodrum – serving Bodrum, Gumbet and Marmaris and Dalaman to the south of Bodrum serving Fethiye, Hisaronu, Ovacik, Icmeler and Oludeniz. These airports are only open in Summer so reaching these places often means flying to Antalya and getting a bus for up to 8 hours.

• The temperatures at the beginning and end of the season are hotter on the south coast than elsewhere so those wishing to rent out have a longer season. The weather in Turkey is usually hot enough for a beach holiday from April until October. In winter the weather is pleasant , 15-20 degrees max but not usually sunbathing weather

• Many of the beaches in Turkey are stony so those seeking the sandy beaches which stretch for miles should choose carefully.

• There are many things worth seeing in Istanbul but this is not practical on a visit to the coastal resorts as it is hundreds of miles away (from Antalya 16 hours by bus!)

• Nightlife in Turkey is a little more subdued than other European destinations, but still lively in the right places and there are certain tourist ghettos which remind one of Blackpool.

• Food and drink(outside Hotels) tend to be cheaper than other European destinations and the standard of life is extremely high.

• Turkey's population is approximately 70 million

• Turkey is home to some of Europes best value beach clubs and 4 and 5 star hotels and holiday villages

• Dalaman is very british, Bodrum and Antalya are more cosmopolitan
